LANSING, Mich., July 1, 2022 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2023 state budget. The finalized budget is the successful outcome of much negotiation and work on the part of the legislators — the work has paid off, as the budget agreement includes spending that supports Michiganders and builds a stronger Michigan. In response to the budget approval, state Rep. David LaGrand (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:

“I am very glad to support the budget we passed today. I’m especially proud to see that several of my priorities are part of the final budget, including funding for public safety. We’ve included grants for community policing and $30 million for fire department and emergency medical services. Our indispensable schoolteachers are supported as well with expenditures allotted for increasing retention and recruitment via MI Future Educator Fellowships and MI Future Educator Student Teacher Stipends. Overall, this budget prepares Michigan and sets us up for a thriving and prosperous year.”
