LANSING – Surrounded by family, friends and supporters, State Representative-elect Marilyn Lane (D-Fraser) was sworn in to office today at the State Capitol.

“It’s an absolute honor to serve as our community’s voice in Lansing,” said Lane, who will represent the 31st House District, which includes Mount Clemens and parts of Fraser and Clinton Township. “Our residents deserve a state government that uses our tax dollars wisely to support our families, attract new businesses to our great state, help put workers back on the job and revitalize our economy. I look forward to hitting the ground running and working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make sure our state government works for our residents and finds solutions that will turn Michigan around.”

Lane, who was sworn in by House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.), will begin her work in Lansing when the 96th Legislature convenes in January. Lane was joined at her swearing-in ceremony by her husband, Jim, and other family members and friends.

As a State Representative, Lane will focus on helping small businesses grow so they create jobs; creating a leaner, more efficient government that uses taxpayer dollars wisely; and protecting priorities like education so that our children are prepared for 21st century jobs. Before being elected to the House, Lane served as Mayor of Fraser and as a business development representative in the private sector.

“Creating jobs must be top priority for the Legislature,” Lane said. “Just as I fought to bring new investment and jobs to Fraser, I will fight to do the same for Macomb County and all of Michigan. Our state has a unique opportunity to use our manufacturing base and highly skilled workforce to become a leader in emerging and growing fields like alternative energy. I will work hard to help build on these strengths to support our workers and create a brighter future for Michigan.”
