LANSING, Mich., Oct. 18, 2022 — Last night, The Detroit News published new and scandalous details from the Attorney General’s investigation into former Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield. House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D- Scio Township) issued the following statement in response:
“These revelations are outrageous, scandalous and entirely unsurprising. We have been demanding an investigation into the former speaker for months, and current Speaker Jason Wentworth has repeatedly and completely shut down any efforts within the House to scrutinize the criminal operation Lee Chatfield allegedly orchestrated from the Speaker’s Office.
“Just last week, we publicly outlined this culture of corruption that has taken hold over Republican leadership — this is exactly what we were talking about. We still do not know the details of how Chatfield managed his political and government staff, taxpayer dollars, and manipulated the House of Representatives toward his political, fundraising, and criminal goals. And the current Speaker of the House Jason Wentworth, once Lee Chatfield’s right hand man, is defending Chatfield, keeping his secrets hidden, and blocking every attempt to show the people of Michigan the sordid details of the criminal enterprise that ran this chamber.”
