CHELSEA, Mich., Oct. 25, 2022 — The Michigan Strategic Fund announced today its support for a redevelopment project in downtown Chelsea. The long-vacant Chelsea Rockwell building, built in 1909, was originally used as a stove manufacturing warehouse. Chelsea Rockwell LLC will redevelop the building to offer more than 50 market-rate apartments. Supported by a Community Revitalization Program grant, the project is expected to generate a total investment of nearly $9 million. In response, House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:

“This is great news for the walkability and economic activity in Chelsea’s beautiful downtown. Not only will the community benefit from the addition of affordable housing, but those new residents will bring increased foot traffic and patrons to the small businesses that are the backbone of our local economy. I look forward to an even brighter future for Chelsea.”
