LANSING, Mich., July 8, 2021 — A poll released by Progress Michigan today revealed that 53 percent of Michigan voters support an investigation into ties between Michigan lawmakers, right-wing militia groups and the Jan. 6 insurrection. Only 25 percent oppose an investigation. House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township), who initiated the call for the creation of a joint select committee to conduct just such an investigation, issued the following statement:
“The people of Michigan deserve answers and accountability for those involved in inciting, enabling and carrying out the insurrection in D.C. six months ago. Events such as bringing false electors to Lansing and the armed mob that swarmed our state Capitol last April seem to point to strong ties between our state and the Jan. 6 attack, which is why Michiganders are demanding a thorough investigation of what transpired. We will continue to work to bring our Republican colleagues to the table to create a bipartisan committee to identify any ties that may exist and ensure this never happens again.”
