LANSING, Mich., May 2, 2022 — According to a report, the U.S. Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, effectively ending a nationwide right to an abortion. In Michigan, a 1931 law criminalizes performing an abortion except to save the life of the pregnant person. House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:

“While only a draft opinion, we knew this was possible and now know it is likely. That is why Democrats have worked tirelessly to protect access to reproductive health care, and we won’t stop now. From introducing the Reproductive Health Act to voicing our support for Gov. Whitmer’s suit to take the 1931 law off the books to cheering on our allies who are gathering signatures to enshrine the right to bodily autonomy in the Michigan Constitution, we will never rest until the people of Michigan are fully free to make the medical choices that are right for them.”
