LANSING — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Directive that works to close the gender wage gap by barring employers from requesting the salary histories of potential new employees. In response, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:
“In 2019, there is no reason for a woman with the same education and qualifications as a man to earn less for her contributions in the workplace. Gov. Whitmer understands closing the gender wage gap is a common-sense solution for helping move our economy forward. This Executive Directive will help make Michigan a national leader in achieving equal pay for all. I look forward to championing the package of equal pay legislation that languished last session so it can achieve successful passage during the 100th Legislature.”
