LANSING, Mich., Feb. 17, 2021 — The Michigan Department of Health of Human Services (MDHHS) announced a new program to enhance the state’s equity strategy to reach more Michiganders with the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. The Michigan Legislative Latino Caucus released the following statement in support:
“We already know that COVID-19 disproportionately affects communities of color. As a result, our infection, adverse reaction and death rates are higher when compared to white communities. We appreciate the efforts of MDHHS to ensure that vaccine distribution is more equitable, and we hope these new procedures will not only clear up confusion about the distribution but also ensure that those at greater risk are being vaccinated more quickly.”
