Legislation would require hotels to use refillable dispensers

LANSING, Mich., Oct. 19, 2021 — State Rep. Tullio Liberati (D-Allen Park) introduced legislation to reduce plastic waste in Michigan. House Bill 5411 would require hotels and other lodging establishments to replace disposable plastic toiletry bottles with large reusable dispensers.

“Every day, the need to protect the environment becomes more imperative,” Liberati said. “One way we can do that is by banning some single-use plastic products. The state needs to act now to reduce the amount of plastic thrown into garbage bags, which will eventually end up polluting the planet in landfills by banning hotels from providing single-use plastic toiletry products. This move is critical to reducing the amount of waste produced, but it will also help businesses’ bottom lines with cost-effective solutions.”
