DETROIT, Mich., Oct. 19, 2020 — President Donald Trump visited Muskegon on Sunday and doubled down on rhetoric that emboldened a group with dangerous views to plan to kidnap Gov. Whitmer.  In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“What those terrorists planned to do to Gov. Whitmer is horrifying. Rather than denounce their behavior, President Trump instead doubled down and continued to use the same dangerous, harmful language that galvanized these domestic terrorists in the first place. It not only demonstrates his complete lack of empathy or moral compass but continues to embolden others.

“The President has shown that he is unable to grasp, that as what he says matters after all these years and refuses to retract and denounce hateful and threatening language, he just continues to prove that he is not fit to lead. I stand with Gov. Whitmer in her quest to keep Michiganders safe from COVID-19.”
