LANSING — Today, Gov. Whitmer signed an Executive Directive that works to close the gender pay gap by barring employers from requesting the salary histories of potential new employees. In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“The financial security of women in Michigan — and by extension, our entire economy — has for too long been ignored by previous administrations. During my time in office, I have been fighting to raise awareness and provide solutions to finally close the gender wage gap. That’s why I introduce legislation to create a pay equity commission last session and I will be reintroducing this session. I could not be more grateful to finally have an ally in the governor’s office who is willing to take action and make economic security and success for half our state’s population a priority. ”
