LANSING — Yesterday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Directive that works to close the gender wage gap by barring the state from requesting the salary histories of potential new employees. In response, state Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) issued the following statement:

“Everyone deserves to be appropriately compensated for their hard work. Allowing gender to determine someone’s value is both ridiculous and shameful. Not only will this Executive Directive have lasting positive effects on our economy, it also delivers an important message that we will no longer stand for such discrimination against the residents of our state. I look forward to supporting Gov. Whitmer’s directive with legislation that ensures all Michiganders are treated equitably.”
