LANSING, Mich.—In response to the reckless tax cut spree Michigan House Republicans rushed through the legislature today, Rep. Mari Manoogian (D-Birmingham) released the following statement:
“This outrageous decision by Republicans to abandon good-faith negotiations and instead forge ahead with their plan that throws our state into fiscal chaos by creating a structural deficit for next year and beyond is simply unacceptable,” said Manoogian. “We cannot sit by and pretend like rising costs aren’t hurting folks across our state. Michiganders need real relief right now, not a sweeping, reckless $2.5 billion tax cut, which, among other issues, will take more than a year to take effect.”
“Our constituents are counting on all of us to stop the partisan bickering and gamesmanship and deliver relief right now, not a year from now, which is why I’m excited to learn more about Governor Whitmer’s “MI Tax Rebate Right Now” proposal to put $500 back in working people’s pockets.”
Rep. Mari Manoogian represents the communities of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, and the eastern portion of West Bloomfield Township. In addition to serving as Deputy Whip for the Michigan House Democratic Caucus, she is also the Minority Vice Chair of the House Committee on Energy. Manoogian is a member of the Truman National Security Project and was an inaugural participant in the Aspen Security Forum’s Rising Leaders Program.
