State Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) sits on a committee at the Anderson House Office Building in Lansing.
LANSING, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 is the deadline for the legislature to pass and present a budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year to the governor. Since gaining a majority, House Republicans have delayed the budget process, refusing to come to the negotiation table in good-faith. After the deadline, state Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) issued the following statement:
“Budgeting isn’t optional, it’s the foundation of good governance. After months of delay and political posturing, House Republicans failed to deliver a state budget on-time. That failure puts real needs at risk: school meals, student transportation, safe infrastructure, mental health resources and essential services that families rely on everyday. This isn’t just a missed deadline, it’s a missed commitment to the people of our state.”
