State Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) speaks at the Stop Trump’s Tariffs media availability event on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Anderson House Office Building in Lansing.
LANSING, Mich. March 6, 2025 — House Democrats held a media availability today to highlight the harmful effects of President Donald Trump’s reckless trade policies and the uncertainty they create for Michigan families, workers and businesses. Democratic House members called out the damaging consequences of Trump’s tariffs, which function as a tax on consumers and manufacturers. After the event, State Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) issued the following statement:
“This trade war and the back and forth on tariffs are a direct hit to Michigan’s economy, driving up costs for small businesses and working families who are already stretched thin. When manufacturers pay more for parts, that cost gets passed down to consumers — whether it’s groceries, a new car, or supplies from your local hardware store. Michigan workers shouldn’t have to pay the price for reckless trade policies that create more uncertainty and fewer opportunities.”
