LANSING, Mich., March 24, 2025 — State Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit), minority vice chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and Insurance and Financial Services, questioned the Michigan Public Service Commission on the state’s ongoing energy reliability issues and the rising utility costs burdening Michigan families during the committee’s meeting last week. After the committee meeting, McKinney issued the following statement:

“Month after month, Michiganders are watching their utility bills climb higher, but what are they getting in return? Outages. Delays. Unreliable service. My constituents and families all across this state are being asked to pay more while receiving less. That’s unacceptable. They deserve real answers, real accountability and real action, not the same tired excuses. Basic services like heat, electricity and water are not luxuries — they’re necessities. It’s past time we put the needs of the people before corporate profits.”
