LANSING, Mich., Jan. 12, 2023 — State Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit) was sworn in yesterday as state representative for the 2023-24 legislative term. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 102nd Legislature and the first day of House Democrats having the majority in over a decade.
“I’m truly blessed and honored to have the opportunity to serve in the Michigan House of Representatives,” McKinney said. “I want to thank everyone who believed in us, especially the residents of the 14th District. Your love, support, guidance and prayers are the reasons why I am here today — I will never forget that, and I’m excited to get to work. It’s time to deliver for the people of the 14th House District and for the residents of this great state.”
This is McKinney’s first term in office as the representative for House District 14, which comprises northeast Detroit, part of Warren and all of Center Line. His priorities include increasing access to health care, ensuring every child in Michigan receives a quality education, improving the criminal justice system and securing the rights of unions and workers.
