LANSING, Mich., May 17, 2023 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, state Rep. Denise Mentzer (D-Mount Clemens) and several other leaders visited Selfridge Air National Guard Base yesterday to celebrate the construction of a new $28 million facility at Selfridge. After the event Rep. Mentzer issued the following statement:
“Since taking office, and long before that, I’ve advocated continuously for support for Selfridge Air National Guard Base. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and the investments we have made. Selfridge is an essential part of our Macomb County community. It is a source of pride and jobs, contributing an economic benefit of more than $850 million. This event marked the continued commitment to Michiganders’ security and the continued protection of America. You can count on me to advocate for Selfridge’s continued success, growth, and security.”
The celebrated investment will go toward a new 41,900-square-foot facility that will transform two hangars into a new hangar equipped for fighter maintenance. The new facility will house maintenance on the main level and leadership and staff offices along with classrooms on the second floor. The new hangar is part of an effort to attract a new fighter squadron to Selfridge.
