LANSING, Mich., Jan. 4, 2024 — Earlier this morning, an active shooter entered Perry High School in Iowa. First responders arrived at the scene, and reports indicate that although local police de-escalated the situation, multiple gunshot victims were reported. The Michigan Firearm Safety and Violence Prevention Caucus issued the following statement in response to the reports:

“It is unfortunate that on the fourth day of a new year, a school shooting has occurred. After winter break, these children headed back to their studies and faced an unthinkable day. Our hearts go out to the students, families and community that endured this event. As a nation, we must continue to advocate for the prevention of violence and the safety of our children.”
