LANSING, Mich., Dec. 6, 2024 — The Michigan Senate passed Senate Bill 938 out of the Senate Energy and Environment Committee yesterday. Spearheaded by state Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton), this bipartisan effort would enhance Michigan’s hazardous waste disposal laws. The bill takes a big step in protecting public health, ensuring environmental safety and supporting communities impacted by hazardous waste facilities. State Rep. Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Township), a champion for her residents in their fight against radioactive waste, issued the following statement after the bill’s advancement:
“This bill is a commonsense solution that puts Michigan families first. It will make sure Southeast Michigan isn’t treated as a free-for-all dumping ground for dangerous waste. It’s about fairness, holding polluters accountable and making sure our environment is protected for generations to come. This bipartisan effort shows we can all agree on making Michigan a safer and healthier place to live.”
