LANSING, Mich., Dec. 20, 2024 This week, the dysfunction in the Michigan Legislature has reached an unacceptable level and I won’t stay silent. One Democratic Representative and all 54 Republican Representatives decided that partisan gamesmanship was more important than our constituents. At a time when our state is facing so many critical challenges like environmental threats from radioactive waste dumping, affordable housing shortages, struggling public schools, and an ongoing need to support working families, our elected leaders decided to shut it down and run out the clock rather than compromise for the betterment of Michigan.

Instead of rolling up their sleeves to solve problems, we saw gridlock, bickering, and a refusal to collaborate which led to an early adjournment. This is not what Michiganders expect or deserve from their leaders.

Our resident’s lives have been negatively impacted by this inaction. Over 200 bills have died in the House of Representatives while families are struggling to make ends meet, students are falling behind, and our natural resources face constant threats without the necessary protections. It’s time for our leaders to remember why they were elected and who they serve. The people of Michigan deserve better than this dysfunction.

I remain committed to putting our constituents first when the legislature resumes in January.
