State Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) testifies in committee at the Anderson House Office Building in Lansing.
LANSING, Mich., Jan. 31, 2025 — State Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) was appointed to the influential House Appropriations Committee, where he will fight to ensure Michigan’s budget and funding priorities reflect the needs of working families. In addition to this critical assignment, Morgan will also serve in a leadership position as minority vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Local Transportation, where he will work to strengthen investments in local roads and public transportation throughout Michigan.
“The budget is a reflection of our values, and I am honored to have a seat at the table to advocate for responsible, people-centered investments,” Morgan said. “From fully funding our public education system, mental health and transportation infrastructure to holding corporations accountable when they take tax breaks and fail to deliver for workers, I will be a fierce advocate for the people of Michigan on the House Appropriations Committee.”
As minority vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Local Transportation, Morgan will play a key role in shaping Michigan’s infrastructure investments, fighting for local road funding, safer roads and smarter transportation planning that benefits communities statewide. Additionally, as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans, he will continue the work he started as the prior subcommittee chair to reduce veteran homelessness and ensure Michigan’s servicemembers and veterans receive the support, health care and resources they deserve.
“With these committee roles, I look forward to working on bipartisan investments in our communities, seeking common ground where possible and ensuring that the needs of working families always come first,” Morgan continued.
The House Appropriations Committee is one of the most powerful in the Legislature, deciding how Michigan’s resources are allocated. Morgan previously served on the Appropriations Committee during his first term, chairing the Subcommittee on Military and Veterans and State Police, where he led the creation of a new $2 million fund to reduce veteran homelessness along with a $1.5 million community-based public safety grant program. His priorities include investing in the basics: schools, local roads, public transportation, housing and reducing costs for Michigan families.
