ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 11, 2025 — State Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) recently celebrated the announcement of $1.5 million in new grants to tackle veteran homelessness across the state through the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency (MVAA) Michigan Veteran Homelessness Prevention Grant (MiVHPG). These grants, supported through legislative funding secured last term by Morgan, House Democrats and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, will provide critical housing and support services for Michigan veterans and their families.

“No one who served our country should have to wonder where they’re going to sleep at night,” Morgan said. “This funding reflects what the government is supposed to do for its people — deliver real results that can change the course of lives and strengthen our communities. I’m proud to have worked alongside my colleagues to support this program, and I’m excited to see these dollars continue to make an impact across Michigan.”

The 2025 grant recipients include:

  • Barry County United Way
  • Center for Higher Education Achievement
  • Disability Network Eastern Michigan
  • 8Cap
  • Mid-Michigan Community Action Agency
  • Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP)

As chair of the Military and Veteran Affairs and State Police Subcommittee in the 2023-24 term, Morgan led efforts to secure a total of $5 million in the department’s budget to establish this grant program. The program provides grants to nonprofit organizations to provide, or assist in providing, housing for homeless veterans and their families.
