ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 18, 2024 — State Rep. Jason Morgan issued the following statement condemning hate following a recent bias-motivated crime against a Jewish University of Michigan student:

“Across our country and here in our community, we’ve seen a rise in hateful rhetoric and violence that targets individuals based on their identity, background and beliefs. In these times, it is more important than ever that we stand united against the forces of hate and division. We cannot and will not tolerate these acts of violence.

“Antisemitism and Islamophobia, like all forms of hate, have no place in our community and must not be given oxygen to spread. These prejudices tear at the fabric of what makes Ann Arbor so special; a vibrant, diverse and inclusive place that we all call home.

“As the Ann Arbor police investigate this matter, we must ensure that we are looking out for one another — not only our close friends and family, but everyone across our campus and community. If you have any information on this recent bias-motivated crime or threats of violence toward any person in our community, please contact law enforcement.

“Despite the best efforts of those that seek to divide us, we will continue to build a better and brighter future for all people to live proud and true to themselves.”
