LANSING, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 is the deadline for the legislature to pass and present a budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year to the governor. Since gaining a majority, House Republicans have delayed the budget process, refusing to come to the negotiation table in good-faith. After the deadline, state Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:
“After months of dragging out our state’s budget process, House Republicans failed to follow through on their most basic responsibility: delivering a budget on time. Families across our state are depending on reliable school transportation, nutritious school meals and safe roads and bridges — and these delays gamble with our future. Michiganders don’t get to miss a bill and walk away — but House Republicans are treating our state budget like it’s optional. It’s time for them to stop the political games, stop importing Washington D.C. dysfunction to Michigan, come to the table in good faith and do their damn jobs.
