State Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) speaks in support of his resolution on Thursday, May 7, 2025, at the Capitol Building in Lansing.
LANSING, Mich., May 7, 2025 — State Reps. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) and Jaime Greene (R-Richmond), co-chairs of the Taiwan Friendship Caucus, welcomed Director General Dennis Yen-Feng Lei of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago to the state Capitol today. During the visit, Morgan introduced a resolution reaffirming Michigan’s commitment to strengthening and deepening its ties to Taiwan.
“We’re proud to welcome Director General Lei to our state and our Capitol,” Morgan said. “Taiwan is a beacon of democratic values in Asia, and a trusted friend. Michigan is proud to stand with Taiwan and invest in a future rooted in shared values — freedom, cooperation and mutual respect.”
The resolution outlines Michigan’s long-standing relationship with Taiwan — including over $250 million in trade with Michigan businesses in 2024 and a growing Taiwanese American community that continues to enrich our state. In addition, it highlights Taiwan’s status as a key U.S. trading partner and ongoing efforts to increase collaboration between Michigan and Taiwan. The resolution urges the United States to pursue further trade agreements with Taiwan and support Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
