LANSING, Mich., March 1, 2023 — House Democrats have introduced common-sense gun reform legislation yesterday. The bill package focuses on tackling gun violence via three central reforms — universal background checks, safe storage laws and extreme risk protection orders. Democrats have previously introduced gun reform legislation; however, after the fatal mass shooting at Michigan State University, there is an urgent call for bipartisan support to end gun violence and increase public safety. State Rep. Christine Morse (D-Texas Township) issued the following statement supporting the legislation:

“As a parent, I know how scary and unacceptable it is that we have to worry about our kids being safe from gun violence at school. House Democrats have been trying to pass gun reform laws to address this public health crisis for a long time. It is way past due that lawmakers reach across the aisle with the shared goal of keeping our kids, our schools and our communities protected. There are no acceptable excuses. The time to act is now, and that is what we have done.”
