LANSING — House Republicans approved Senate Bill 1176 today which will exempt nonprofit entities capable of making political contributions from having to publicly disclose the personal information of their donors. All Democrats voted against the dark money proposal. In response to its passage, state Rep. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement:

“Republican legislators are once again trying to rob the people of Michigan of a transparent and accountable government. This bill deliberately seeks to hamstring incoming Democratic leadership of their ability to uphold the integrity of our elected offices by further opening the floodgates for dark money into our system. These kinds of underhanded tactics are precisely why they lost so much ground in November, and why they continue to lose until they start listening to the people of Michigan about the issues that truly matter to them.”
