State Rep. Carrie A. Rheingans (D-Ann Arbor) testifies in support of her bill for Michigan to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact in Lansing on June 6, 2023.

LANSING, Mich. June 6, 2023 – A bill that would add Michigan to a growing list of states supporting the National Popular Vote for president won approval from the Michigan House Elections Committee today.

State Rep. Carrie A. Rheingans (D-Ann Arbor), sponsor of House Bill 4156, released the following statement:

“Fairness and living in a democracy mean every voice is heard and every vote is equal. The National Popular Vote bill ensures that every voter, in every state, will have an equal vote in every presidential election. That is why I am proud this bill received support from my colleagues, and I will continue to advocate for its passage in the Michigan House. The presidential candidate who gets the most votes nationwide should become president, plain and simple.”
