LANSING — This morning Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ordered the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to issue emergency rules to protect Michigan’s kids from the harmful effects of vaping. The governor’s order bans the sale of flavored nicotine vaping products, and misleading marketing regarding their safety. In response, state Rep. Sheldon Neeley (D-Flint) issued the following statement:

“These flavors were marketed toward children to get them hooked on tobacco alternatives. We were finally starting to see a significant downturn in tobacco use before these devices hit the market, now we are seeing significant increases in e-cigarette use. We have the opportunity to save the next generation from significant lung damage – so we should use it. We must make bold steps today so that tomorrow we can be glad we took action while we could.”
