FLINT, Mich., Aug. 29, 2025 — Earlier this week, House Republicans advanced House Bill 4706, a sweeping omnibus budget that rolls multiple department budgets into one proposal and makes significant funding reductions across key areas of state government. In response, state Rep. Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint) issued the following statement:
“Budgets reflect our values, and the Republican plan makes clear that theirs do not align with Michigan families. It guts health care and hospitals, slashes food assistance for kids and seniors, strips funding for maternal and infant health and even weakens public safety by cutting state police and community violence intervention programs. These reckless cuts would burden families in Flint and across our state with higher costs, fewer protections and less opportunity to build secure lives.
“Just as concerning is the process: after months of delay, House Republicans dropped an 800-page budget on House Democrats’ desks with under an hour to review it, shutting out public input and accountability. That is not transparent or responsible governance. I could not in good conscience support a plan that jeopardizes health, safety and opportunity in our state. Michiganders deserve leaders who put people before politics, and that is the commitment I will continue to uphold.”
