LANSING, Mich., Nov. 9, 2020 — Last week, Governor Whitmer signed House Bill 6137, now Public Act 244 of 2020, which requires the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to publicly publish certain data regarding COVID-19 and nursing homes on the DHHS website. In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit), sponsor of the bill, issued the following statement:

“This law is the result of bipartisan, bicameral, and executive and legislative cooperation. We rolled up our sleeves, set aside our differences and found a solution that is best for the people of Michigan, and I am so proud to be a leader on this. The regular updates now required of MDHHS, along with the rest of the package, will go a long way in safeguarding our seniors. COVID-19 is again surging across the country and our state. We must be as transparent about this information as possible so everyone can take appropriate measures to keep our communities and our most vulnerable neighbors safe.”
