SAGINAW, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 was the deadline for the Legislature to pass a balanced budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year. House Republicans missed this deadline, delaying critical funding for families and communities across Michigan. After the deadline passed, state Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement:
“Passing a budget by July 1 was a known imperative for House Republicans. It’s what we agreed on, and it’s what Michiganders expected. Missing this deadline means everyday Michiganders — including students, public safety teams and seniors — are left waiting for critical funding. That’s not leadership.
“Our district can’t stretch its own paychecks because Republicans didn’t do their work. I’m ready to lead with urgency and accountability. Let’s put politics aside, get back to the table and deliver for the people of Saginaw and all of Michigan.”
