LANSING, Mich., Sept. 28, 2022 — The Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) approved grant funding yesterday to retain jobs at the Nexteer Automotive Corp. site in Buena Vista Township. State Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) strongly advocated to secure these funds. The funding will help Nexteer purchase more equipment needed to support and retain Nexteer’s only U.S.-based manufacturing site.
“This award is not just an investment in one company — it is a major step toward securing our economic future. With the rise in electric vehicle manufacturing, Nexteer will stay in our community and maintain good-paying job opportunities for years to come,” O’Neal said. “I am overjoyed for Buena Vista Township as it will continue to thrive — thanks to this smart investment.”
The funding is expected to retain a minimum of 1,100 jobs and generate a total investment of $51 million through June 2024 and is expected to generate $261 million of capital and research and development investment over the next 10 years. The MSF approved $25.5 million in federal COVID-19 relief block grant funding and a 15-year tax exemption worth about $2 million.
