LANSING, Mich., April 8, 2022 — Yesterday, the United States Senate voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Jackson is the first Black woman and the first public defender to hold this position in the Supreme Court’s more than 200-year history. State Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement in support of the justice’s confirmation:
“I thoroughly applaud the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. We’ve needed a perspective like hers on the court for a long time. Her composure throughout the process has demonstrated that she has the temperament, judgment and experience necessary to make the decisions that will affect the course of American history. It’s a historic moment for the nation — one that gives me hope for our future.”
