LANSING — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an Executive Directive that works to close the gender wage gap by barring employers from requesting the salary histories of potential new employees. In response, state Rep. Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) issued the following statement:

“I thank Governor Whitmer for her swift action to address the striking wage disparities between men and women that have plagued Michigan for too long. By prohibiting previous salaries from being disclosed to employers, Michigan will lead the way in closing the wage gap. The women of Michigan thank the Governor for seeing us as true equals in the workplace. Today’s action will be an added benefit to our economy and the quality of life for so many of Michigan’s women.”
