LANSING, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 is the statutory deadline for the legislature to pass and present a budget for the fiscal year to the governor. Since gaining the majority, House Republicans have delayed the budget process, refusing to negotiate with transparency and with a good-faith effort. After the deadline passed, state Rep. Natalie Price (D-Berkley) issued the following statement:
“We have an obligation as lawmakers to fund the critical services people need. House Republicans were unwilling to negotiate and unwilling to do their job. This means hungry kids, sick people and crumbling roads and bridges.
“This reminds me of when my students would rush their assignments, you just can’t do months of work in a few hours. Ramming through the budget at the last second was never going to work and Michiganders deserve better than this.”
