The Michigan Department of Corrections negotiated a price reduction in prisoner call rates — this was made possible via the bipartisan budget signed earlier this year by the governor. There was a 40% reduction of prisoner phone rates after a recent contract renegotiation with telecommunications provider ViaPath Technologies. At around nine cents per minute, the new rate is 38% lower than the current rate of 14 cents per minute.
