LANSING, Mich., July 29, 2025 — Michigan House Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton) has issued a statement:
“Earlier today, I went through the formal process of recommending Rep. Farhat be reinstated as minority vice chair of the House Appropriations Committee. The bottom line is that it’s the end of July, Hall has failed to produce a budget, and now he’s removed a key piece of the negotiation strategy he devised when he appointed Rep. Farhat in January. Hall has said repeatedly that he’s comfortable shutting down the government, and making such a short-sighted move this late into the term seems proof that he’s aiming to do it intentionally. None of this is normal or acceptable, not when billions of dollars and millions of lives hang in the balance.
“Removing someone from the position served in a bipartisan manner for the last seven months, solely because they voted against Matt Hall’s wishes, is punitive and childish. Hall’s early and brief successes of bullying his way into the spotlight this term has completely backfired. Instead of admitting his failures as a leader he’s doubling down on this lazy and unsuccessful strategy. He expects everyone around him to bend to his will, and that’s precisely why he’s been unable to get a budget done: he’s unwilling to accept that he can’t control every aspect of this process, or the people involved in it. The only responsible path forward is for Hall to grow up, apologize, and get back to business.”
