LANSING — Tonight, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer gave her first State of the State address, outlining her vision for the state and calling for bipartisan collaboration to address the issues that matter most to Michigan’s working families. In response, House Democratic Floor Leader Yousef Rabhi (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:

“Gov. Whitmer spoke tonight about the importance of once again prioritizing our state’s working families, and that’s why I was proud to be joined by an advocate who fought for strong wages and good benefits for those families for years. Our state and nation are made stronger by ensuring all working people have the freedom to organize and fight for their right to earn a decent living. I’m grateful to have a governor who recognizes that strength and is advocating for plans and programs that will not only address issues like repairing our infrastructure and cleaning up our environment, but will create good jobs in the process. We must continue to build a better future for all Michiganders. I am eager to work with Gov. Whitmer and labor organizations like the UAW to lead the charge in this fight.”

Floor Leader Rabhi was joined by former UAW President Bob King for the address.
