DETROIT, Mich., July 3, 2025 — July 1 was the deadline for the Michigan Legislature to pass a budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year. House Republicans failed to deliver, dragging out the process and refusing to negotiate in good faith. After the deadline passed, state Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit) issued the following statement: “The fact that we’re past the July 1 deadline without a final budget is unacceptable. This isn’t a game — people in Detroit and across the state rely on us to get this right. “As lawmakers, our job is to show up, do the work and deliver a budget that meets the needs of Michigan families. That includes ensuring public safety, strong schools and access to health care. It’s about making sure no one goes hungry and that everyone feels safe in their communities. I’m ready to keep working, and I hope my colleagues across the aisle are too.” |
