PONTIAC, Mich., June 24, 2022 — Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court struck down a New York gun-control law that required people to show “proper cause” to get a license to carry a concealed handgun outside the home. State Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) issued the following statement in response to the decision:

“While I agree with the right to bear arms, states should also have the right to protect people from gun violence. Overturning a 100-year-old law not only goes against historical tradition — it also puts sensible gun regulation at risk. We must continue to make our voices heard and be advocates for our communities.”
