FLINT, Mich., March 31, 2022 — Today, Governor Whitmer was joined by Genesee County community leaders to support the funding in the FY 2022 budget supplemental for the previously announced creation of a state park at Chevy Commons, site of the former Chevrolet plant in Flint.

“A state park in Genesee County will have a huge impact on our community’s health, environment, and economy. I was excited to join the Governor for the initial announcement last year. I was happy to advocate for this project and vote to deploy additional dollars to invest in infrastructure throughout our county,” said Rep. John Cherry (D-Flint). “It’s time to give our families the chance to explore the wonders and benefits of Michigan’s state parks right in their own community

The new state park is expected to feature boat launches that connect to the Flint River, an amphitheater, and other ways for residents to enjoy the outdoors. Planning is likely to continue throughout 2022.
