LANSING — State Rep. John Chirkun (D-Roseville) announced his House committee assignments today for the 2017-18 legislative session. Chirkun will serve as the Democratic vice chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as serve as a member of the House Oversight and Regulatory Reform committees.
“As the Flint water crisis and the Fraser sinkhole shows, the condition of our state’s infrastructure is a huge issue that needs to be addressed,” said Chirkun. “Being named the Democratic vice chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee gives me an opportunity to work with my legislative colleagues to come up with fair and common-sense solutions for investment to address the challenges we face in our transportation system and future infrastructure needs.
“I am honored to be appointed to these important committees by House Speaker Tom Leonard (R-Dewitt) and Democratic Leader Sam Singh (D-East Lansing),” said Chirkun. “These committees allow me to better serve the residents of the 22nd District and address some of the important issues facing Roseville and Warren. These include developing policies that address our infrastructure and transportation needs, policies that promote job creation and legislation providing for more transparency in government operations. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass laws that move Michigan forward.”
Chirkun is serving his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives and represents the 22nd District, which comprises the city of Roseville and eastern portions of the city of Warren.
