LANSING — State Rep. Fred Durhal III (D-Detroit) joined his House colleagues today to open the new legislative session at the ceremonial swearing-in held in the House Chamber at the state Capitol. Rep. Durhal was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack. He was joined by his father and former state Rep. Fred Durhal Jr., Andre’a Lige and Alize Asberry, as well as staff members Mark Payne and Sharvin Jackson.

“During the 98th Legislature, I had the opportunity to work on a number of projects meant to improve the lives of Michiganders that also happened to be close to my heart,” said Rep. Durhal. “It was an honor to spend two years serving alongside the invested community members and leaders of Detroit, and I look forward to continuing that work now. There are many issues facing our state and I will work diligently to provide the best solutions possible.”

Rep. Durhal was also elected to serve as the secretary of the Detroit Caucus for the 2017-2018 legislative term, as well as representing House District 5, which encompasses central Detroit, the Lower West Side and southwest Detroit.
