LANSING — State Rep. Pam Faris (D-Clio) has announced she will be holding a summer reading contest for students in grades 1-8. Contest winners will be announced on Sept. 14.

“Summer break is a fun time for students, but it is a fact that students lose significant academic skills during summer vacation,” Faris said. “Some students’ reading levels fall back three months from where they were when the school year ended. I hope that this contest will encourage students to read and help them maintain their current reading level.”

The contest ends on Labor Day and is open to all local students in grades 1-8. Libraries serving students in the 48th House District will have bookmarks that also serve as entry forms. Online entry forms are available at faris.housedems.com. Students only need to write down the title and total page count of the books they read throughout the summer. All submissions must be received on or before Sept. 13.

Mailed entries may be sent to Rep. Pam Faris, P.O. Box 30014, Lansing, MI. 48909-7514. Winners from grades 1-4 and 5-8 will be announced on Sept. 14. For more information, contact Rep. Faris at (517) 373-7557.

*This is not a school-sponsored contest. Prizes are not paid for with taxpayer funds.
