LANSING — State Rep. Pam Faris (D-Clio) welcomed 7-year-old Lily Surface and her mother, Amy Surface, this week to join her at the Capitol for the day.

“‘Legislator for a Day’ serves as a great opportunity to strengthen the growth and learning experience of young women and men,” said Faris. “These are the business leaders, teachers and legislators of tomorrow, and it is critical that we prepare them with the skills and knowledge they need, not only in the classroom, but in practical settings, as well.”

Lily is a student from Davison Central Elementary School, and she was invited to the Capitol as a prize for winning the fall coloring contest hosted by Rep. Faris’ office. Rep. Faris took Lily and her mother on a tour of the state Capitol building and was able to introduce and recognize them from the House Floor.

“I was honored to spend the day with Lily and her mother, Amy, teaching them what my typical day as a state representative consists of,” said Faris. “I enjoyed seeing her enthusiasm when learning about the process of state government and the importance of civic engagement. The optimism and inquisitiveness that Lily showed during her day in Lansing was yet another reason that I am proud to represent Michigan’s 48th District.”
