LANSING — State Representative Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline) announced today that she will be serving on the Commerce Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee during her first term in the House of Representatives.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to improve transportation infrastructure in my district,” Driskell said. “I have worked locally for many years on our transportation systems, and I am very concerned about the lack of revenue supporting our transportation infrastructure. Our ability to maintain things like our roads affects school bus routes and public safety.” Driskell believes that although there is a long way to go in terms of improving infrastructure in the state, “Positive change is possible for Michigan if legislators and executives are willing to work together.”
In addition, Driskell believes her experience as mayor of Saline will serve her well on the Commerce Committee. For 14 years, she worked to create a pro-business climate and attract jobs to the city, and she looks forward to using her experience throughout Washtenaw County.
“Too many Michiganders are still looking for work, and many small businesses are struggling,” Driskell said. “Working on the Commerce Committee, I will focus on creating more and better jobs, including those generated by locally owned businesses in my district.”
