GARDEN CITY — State Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) hosted a town hall meeting late last month with residents across the district to discuss issues that are important to them. The event was part of the Michigan House Democrats’ “This Is Your House” listening tour, featuring town hall meetings in locations across the state.

“The best way for elected officials to do their jobs is to listen to the people they represent,” Jones said. “I was glad to host this event to give my constituents a chance to talk to me face to face about what matters to them.”

Jones’ special guest for the event, House Democratic Floor Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills), gave a presentation on changing Michigan’s tax system from a flat tax to a graduated income tax. Other topics that those in attendance raised were fixing roads; water contamination and repairing infrastructure; high tax and insurance rates; taxes on seniors’ retirement; better schools; and Social Security and Medicare.

“We had an extremely productive discussion around these issues, but the work doesn’t stop there,” Jones said. “I look forward to working on these topics in Lansing to help make the 11th District a better place to live.”
