INKSTER — State Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) has been named to the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list of 2019 as one of the nation’s most influential young people in the field of law and policy. The annual list provides an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the contributions of some of the country’s most inspiring young professionals, particularly in areas that have been historically lacking in youth engagement. Experts and industry leaders pour through thousands of candidates each year to recognize the most promising trailblazers.

“I am deeply honored to be named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list alongside so many incredible young change-makers,” said Jones. “Even though we come from a variety of diverse backgrounds, the one thing that each of us on this list has in common is that we refused to be defined by our age. We choose to let our actions, passion and unwavering commitment to making a difference in our communities speak for themselves.”

Joining Jones on the Forbes list are Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez, survivors of the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

“I didn’t run for office just to be the youngest representative in the state’s history; I ran because I wanted to be a part of forging a brighter future for the people of Michigan,” said Jones. “I hope the stories of those of us on this list will inspire other young people to set aside their age and have the courage to take a stand for what they believe.”
